I hate CAPTCHA so much, you just keep proving that you are not a robot and it is so annoying

I could see this happening to some people. It is not true for all. If your work ethic is already in place, many are much more useful in a home office. I’ve been working from home for years. I am In sales for a huge global company. I get Up every day, shower, dressed , coffee and to my office. You could not procrastinate in many jobs. Just saying

Just now I was trying to submit a message on MyPoints Customer service form. I completed it (which is a pain in itself) and then the stupid Recaptha comes up. WHY?! I keep getting error messages that it is not working. Then it came back saying click palm tree. I love palm trees. I click the 2 photos of palm tree. It says click to verify all the pictures of palm trees. There is another photo with trees but the photo is grainy. It just looks like regular trees so I am not sure. I don’t click. I can’t proceed.

    Great post Joseph.
Honestly wished these Money savings Apps have been around since 2015. I really regret how i spend my money back then life was pretty Rosy for me, but no much regrets, all thanks to Entrepreneur Platform that sent me an email about Sumobank and i must say, those guys are pretty amazing.
Been using Sumobank to save and really love how they work and support me. Maybe because i’m a big saver.. lol.

Well, will definitely try to diversify my options but definitely, Sumobank will be their lead for me.

Thank you so much for this list. I have used Piggyvest but I really do not like the fact that they remove 5% whenever I tried to withdraw from my account. It is not easy to meet up with their withdrawal period sometimes. I think I will try cowrywise.

    1. bawo

      July 16, 2019 at 3:33 pm

you can try Sumobank, their withdrawal options is more flexible than Piggyvesst…
They have 4 fixed FREE withdrawal dates and also allows you to set one more date, making it 5… and charges less than 5% if you default any of the 5 days, unlike Piggyvest that restricts you to just 1 day.

    Thanks for your information.
What I want to ask is; Which one is the best to host a website between Domain King and Whogohost?
Have been using domain king for years but I think Whogohost is more faster in speed than Domainking. Or what do you think?

    1. Onome

      July 5, 2019 at 1:13 pm

I have never used whogohost so I’ll judge them according what others who have used them in the past have said.Whogohost is likely popular in Nigeria, but the complaints from users seem to be growing everyday. Personally,I’ll recommend Namecheap to anyone looking for a host on budget.

I relate with this post a lot . funny enough most people still think going to school and coming out means you would land a job in a big company. Education is knowledge , getting the wisdom is what would help you in life . I an currently teaching and also wanting to learn graphic and web design . all this I’m doing before nysc. Even after nysc we might not land the job we feel we are qualified for .this shouldn’t put us into depression. We should rather apply wisdom into our lives and stop waiting for jobs when we can create one .

Thanks Onome for picking this up -a good survey and post it is.
I just really wanna point a thing out amidst the wonderful thoughts and opinions of everyone – DEPRESSION isn’t SADNESS.
Depression is psychotherapeutic; a really long period (often several weeks/months) of real emotional and psychological drain, and in this case could be caused by a whole lot albeit the “joblessness” and “reality” often seen as common. Calls for suicide, inflicting injuries on oneself and others, ideation are always related.
PGD (such a beautiful name as a contributor would give it), could result from relationships, “torments” from dons, personal “failures”, twists of fate, abuses, among others, which may directly/indirectly be related to college, but connected with “post graduation”.
A whole lot of us were (just) SAD, sorrowful, distressed, emptied, (all those synonyms) often with regrets, and not actually being DEPRESSED!
One suffering from any sort of PGD needs a professional (and probably some medical and psychiatric) aid IMHO.
I, unlike many felt all of the sad moments in my final 3years in college, and kinda got ‘relieved’ once I’d written the final exams -inspite all of the joblessness and stuffs afterwards.
To me, why after highschool and some time in college (while LIVING, even under parents/guardians) people can’t realise what the “struggle” is, and suddenly tend to see it only/just after ‘graduation’, is quite baffling to me, since the majority are independent are grown adults by then.
Many of us are almost useless -the sad truth- to the world out there, and yet be hoping and praying for miracles to happen while we can’t even exercise the ‘faith’ of developing, building and bettering ourselves.
We often watch movies, be simultaneously ‘online’ for almost 24/7 while wasting resources in the name of “flexing”; and when we can’t get the “miracle call” to work in Chevron and co after sometime (when eyes don dey clear), these crappy feelings jump in and boom: “We’re depressed”.

Thanks for the suggestions and calls made by the contributors and the post.
    Hopefully someone wakes up!

There are lots of ways to make money online but it takes time and you need a long term mentality. You guys get duped because you want quick cash. • Badmus Adebayo

    March 17, 2019 at 10:44 pm

Hmm, There are times when there is a problem behind a problem. The former has to be figured out to solve the latter. There is a saying that “a problem well stated is half solved” Being able to identify the former go a long way in getting rid of our problems. Most times it might turn out to be a difficult thing to figure out cos you’d never even know it exists.

I’m introverted too and I agree with the fact we are afraid of failure. I don’t want people to see me as a failure. This fear of failure has affected me in alotta ways. At a point in time I was challenged to try out something in which I thought to myself “I can’t do this” but I didn’t have much of a choice. In the end it was something I did perfectly well. This made me realized that there’s a lot I could do if I summon the courage to try them. And if I begin to start challenging the “I can’t do it” thought that always linger in my head.

I’ve always been blaming it all on introversion but this post has made me realized that, it is the fear that exists in us. But the question is “why is this fear of a thing more pronounced among introverts?”

This is an awesome write-up Miss Blogtrovert. 👍

    1. Onome

      March 17, 2019 at 11:41 pm

Well Badmus, I wish I can give you deserving answers. But I can’t. It’s good that you found a way around your fears. Introversion can be such a pain sometimes.

But, lol I always find my way back because I think the pros far outweigh the cons. One thing is for sure tho, AliExpress will teach you patience 😂😂😂

Hi Ayomide, you can sell it or simply shop online with it… One easy way of selling your funds is by creating and connecting the card to PayPal, then look for anyone would love to buy some funds.

    Hi Onome –

Glad I found your blog and read this. I have neer heard of Vindale and this was an interesting read! Seems like a good option for some extra money on the side and to also help hone my writing skills.

    1. Onome

      November 12, 2018 at 1:18 pm

Hi Ayomide, since you’ve written your first review, be patient, if your review gets approved, you’ll be mailed a $5 reward. Once you receive the first reward, review another product, you will receive a mail instructing you to refer friends, click to be directed to your user panel where you get to see your approved reviews number of referred friends and your referral link… Remember every individual is entitled to 10 reviews after the first… All the best…

Hi Emintah… There is no cash out via PayPal or any other online payment processors. They simply give you gift cards. But you can use your virtual visa card on PayPal. Also… Capterra gives you a virtual visa card if you choose it as a means to claim your reward.

Of all the great pointers you’ve shared, the one about organising tutorial classes settles well with me. Organising tutorials is something I do for free now and since there’s an ideal market for this “business” in the university, I don’t see why I shouldn’t give it a try.
To add to your tips, editing students’ writeups is another great way to earn as a student, too. Some people, like me, are lazy to write for others, but we always find it easy to tweak their writing until it’s close to perfect. If one’s writing skills are powerful, one can edit the writing (essays, research papers, etc) a great number of people in one day and charge a fair price. It’s a hassle-free way to earn as a hustler.

    1. Onome

      October 28, 2018 at 9:58 am

If you do it for free, you should learn to get paid for it dear. Also, I am kinda new to the editing aspect, but I trust you should have done it to recommend it. I just listed the popular few I know of. Thanks for dropping by.

That’s good for sharing the bad side you are facing also. Some blogger don’t talk about their challenges. What I would have advice you to do is schedule a task each day for your blog. Research on trending topics, challenges and other topics that can help. You can download this app on your phone or laptop.

Just add your task and get notifications on task that you need to work on. Remember consistency is the way to success.

I used to run a blog on Blogger but one day felt like adding some more coloring to my blog. I started looking for the solution and many people suggested to perform the migration in order to save all my old post but at the same time give them fresh air.
I performed the migration using the automated service cms2cms and left more than satisfied.
Why I decided to share such an experience? In case somebody is running a website and don’t want to start it from scratch on WordPress platform, you’d better do the website migration and save all your previous work alive.

Hey, Onome! You should pay me for all the times I checked on your blog while you were away. 😂

Just kidding. Welcome back, you were missed

Right, your questions. I can very well relate that sharing my experience with you might drag on till forever. I’ll just share how I dealt with it. Like you, I, too, was a “Tab Lord”. It happens to me offline too, like when I want to look up a word in the dictionary and I find myself wandering off to another word (the painful thing is that I often forget the original word I’d wanted to look up.)
As for looking up stuff on the net, what I do is sketch a to-do list, or a checklist of everything I want to do everyday. I always have my checklist beside me when I surf the net, so when I see another content that’s really really juicy but totes unrelated to the information I’m seeking, I just saved it for offline viewing and continue with my research.
Insightful post! It’s nice to have you back, Onome.

    1. Joseph O.

      May 13, 2018 at 2:55 pm

What if you wait for the seven days to complete would you be paid? Or would you still go through that process of selling your steem dollars?

    1. Joseph O.

      May 12, 2018 at 8:50 pm

I honestly don’t understand but, you must wait for seven days before claiming your earnings. You can sell your steem dollars after they have been claimed. I hope this helps.

As an entrepreneur or blogger, it’s never easy to succeed anyways. Being broke is what we all face sometimes, especially when we’re simply starting up something we know in future will give us alkost everything we ever wished we could have inotially.
Let me use myself as an example here, i am also a student who started blogging but the niche i found myself into wasn’t making me money so i switched from niches to niches until i finally settled for this my cryptocurrency trading blog. It has never been easy, but my advice is that you should find something aside the career to fetch you more money, just like i am doing already. Currently i am an SEO expert and WordPress Expert, so with that i landed a contract that is paying me good money monthly and yet am still striving to make more money and that’s why i also launch the automatic music download website
Good luck my dear… so far so good you’re doing well already

    Dear onome,
I just read this post and i would love to tell you that its NOT TIME GIVE UP BUT TO WORK HARDER! Yeah,i know being broke sucks alot but dont let that stop you from achieving your dreams. I think what you need now is your blog. First of all,you have such an awesome domain name. You need to work on your blog. People that blog about blogging make sooooo much money. I have read soooo many post regarding that. Some were even able to make money on their first month!! So just ask yourself something. If they can make it,then why cant you?? They are not better than you in any way. You just need to sit down and re-evaluate your blog. Start an email list, read and research as much as you can. Be willing to invest the little you have if you think it will be worth it. Another thing, GIVE affiliate marketing a try!!! That is where majority earn from. I am not an expert in this whole blogging thingy but from the little i know,it is soo possible to make a living off affiliate marketing. So what should you do? Join affiliate network like shareasale and start promoting things you use and love. You can also create a resource page with all your links there Nd promote it. I know if you become consistent,STOPPED PROCASTINATING and be dedicated, you will be able to scale through this year!. I just want you to know that your blog was were i learnt about, namecheap and even how to start a blog! You are an amazing blogger. You just need to find yourself… my 2 kobo

Well, I used to say “I’m broke” but all that changed the day I read this book, Smart Money Woman by Uche (I fail to remember the last name right now). Truth is no matter how little or insufficient your funds are, if you create a budget and COMPLETELY abide by it, you’ll have little or no problem. You could also seek for outside help(like donations), though. I mean, why shouldn’t you? I did it once and I was surprised to get a positive response.

I understand how tough life can be as a student. Good luck to you

And how you mix this education thing and the blogging thing is how I don’t understand. You’re some woman. How do you separate your thoughts and worry? I know you think you didn’t manage your time or schedule well, and you could have been a better student. There’ll always be that time people not full time bloggers will analyze and feel they’re doing badly at the other side.
But you’ve dished out good posts all these while and you’ve done good with the blog in general and you haven’t dropped out of school from frustration! Hunny, have a glass of wine 🍷 you’re doing amazing sweetie.

It seems like it’s “taking a hiatus” that’s trending in our blogosphere this year. Many bloggers I know have taken (and are still taking) a break for a reason or the other, myself included. I haven’t visited my facebook account and my blog since the 8th of January, but my break ends on the 20th of March anyway.

I used to be obsessed with my phone, and even though I knew the stuff I did with my phone (blog, tweet, update posts) were quite justifiable, I knew I was overdoing it (and when you’re giving something more time than it deserves, you’re denying another thing the time it deserves — a lesson I’ve learnt now).
Take your time and dedicate it to what deserves it right now — your studies. Good luck to you! Your other readers and I will keep waiting for you.

Please don’t go for long. This blog fuels my passion for blogging. I’ll be starting my blog after my exams this year. Its not procrastination. I just wanna give it the attention a start blog would require. So that by next semester I can just once in a while put in a post and promote it when I’m a bit less busy.
I wanna start a lifestyle blog like this one.

Wow! Should I call this good news?! Or maybe, a coincidental good news?!
Hehe 😂… Coincidentally, today, my friends and I were talking today about vlogging, more like they were advising me to expand my norm to vlogging, but I’m camera shy na 😔
One of my friends, a newbie vlogger, succeeded in convincing me to start vlogging, but I remembered what you said in your post about YouTube’s new policy for people who want to monetize their blogs, and I pointed this out to my friend who, surprisingly, wasn’t fazed. “Rome wasn’t built in a day” were his exact words (He uses YouTube by the way).
I’m sorry for ranting, really. I’m just glad to know about an alternative to YouTube! Like you said, I thought YouTube was the only one one could use to earn and I was wrong! (That “policy” was my number source of demotivation to vlog) Thanks for the enlightenment! Great post, as always. Good evening.

Heeeeey! Happy Birthday to you, Onome! I really hope it’s not too late to wish you one. ☺
I’m vexed at you, sort of shaa. You stayed off for TWO WEEKS without as much as a word! 😒😒

But that’s in the past now, hopefully 😁
You’re BACK!! And it’s your BIRTHDAY! I really hope you had a great day, and yes, I know how hard it is to be consistent in blogging so my wish for you is more grace, and more incentive. ☺

Top of the morning to you, Onome! About Steemit and their plagiarism policy, if I post there an article I’ve already published on my blog would it be flagged as plagiarism? Because I know of a site for writers that doesn’t accept articles if it has been posted elsewhere even if you were the original owner. They prefer you post on their site first before you post it anywhere else. Is Steemit like that?

    1. Joseph O.

      February 2, 2018 at 9:19 am

If you post them almost immediately, your post will not be flagged as plagiarized. Most times, I post on steemit, before I post on my blog. Or on my blog, then immediately on steemit.

Good morning, Onome! I read your post about how Nigerians can cash out of Steemit. I think airhawk project (that’s the name, right?) is an easier, transparent means to cash out of Steemit (for Nigerians).
I’m curious now. As a Nigerian, can I convert my earnings to other cryptocurrencies and sell to other users?

I watched a lot of Dr Phil and Oprah that make me think this is coming from a place of hurt or understanding. It’s quite true that people are supposed to care, but it’s not an obligation. Just as long as they’re not unkind and their rights don’t opposingly clash. You’re right though, I believe shameless shouldn’t always been seen in an offensive way. It definitely could be positive.

    Idle head

    1. Joseph O.

      January 26, 2018 at 9:10 pm

Thanks for dropping by! :). I had to see the positive side of shamelessness.

  • Obinna Anyaibe

    January 26, 2018 at 5:21 pm

Nicely written, Onome! I like how you see the word, shameless, from a whole different angle! If there’s one thing I used to be ashamed of, it’s facing an audience. Be it at church, at school, or even at a small gathering at home, I couldn’t address people without stuttering and mixing up my words. As a result, I stopped voicing out my opinions or suggestions in public, even when I was sure my suggestions or opinions would have yielded a breakthrough. It got so bad that I would whisper my opinions to a friend and ask him to voice it out like it was originally his idea, and that friend would always end up getting the credit. (Not that I care about the credit anyway)

The thing is, the reasons why we’re often ashamed of something is as absurd as the things we’re ashamed of. I’m just glad I realized that before it completely damaged my self confidence.
I’ll say it again, very beautiful blog post! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Joseph O.

      January 26, 2018 at 5:29 pm

Concerning the auto save option, say I’m someone who works and earns monthly, and so chooses to save a fraction of my monthly earnings using this auto save feature. What if I stop working? Or for some reason, I reduce the percentage of funding my bank account? Can I opt out of the auto save feature anytime I feel like? Or, can I change the fixed amount of money to be saved automatically?

You call googling how to be happy bad??? I downloaded YouTube videos and once had a fixed therapy session in a forum online. I almost committed suicide… mine was that bad.

By the way, committing suicide isn’t as easy as some people make it look. If not I’d be dead by now.

The cause of my own depression was regret. I used to have a great contented melancholic life. I started wishing I’m different, sexy, confident, eloquent. I started wishing I could get a girlfriend, stop fearing about presentations, have big muscles and all those shit. I pushed myself too hard and almost got myself crazy. I mean practically and literally crazy. I developed phobia talking to people and seeing myself in a mirror.

My saving grace was writing RHYMES. That’s the only thing that saved me.

But things are better now, i mean, I don’t know if I have a MANTRA so to speak but I’m trying to wrap my head around the fact that what have happen’s happened and whatever way I look physically don’t matter to people that matter. I’m okay being single forever and I don’t have to perfect.

In fact I think depression is necessary for every melancholic out there. If u survive depression, its like your temperament changes. In this part of the country melancholy isn’t lucrative. You have to go out, talk to lots people, put up fake smiles and all that. And no melancholy want that as a daily routine.

    *Shit this is so long*

    1. Joseph O.

      January 13, 2018 at 3:09 pm

Ouch, such is life… And oh! that was a long read. I doubt if depression should be for anyone. Nobody deserves to suffer that much.

I started my blog because every thing was encouraging me to. Like I wrote poems, I have a Laptop, a smart phone and am smart too so I felt I should do it.
By the way am still a student so I didn’t wanna take things too serious with the blogging but not until I read your “awful blogging journey”. I don’t wanna expirence what you have…I mean, blogging for years with Nothing really to show for it. So am setting goals for my blog right away.

Yes I will join you. I am only scared because my blog is not really the same with other blogs like this. Its a poem blog and to create a single post, I have to put at least 10 poems together to create at least a 500 words post.
Well instead of giving reasons why I can’t do it, I will just hold on to one reason why I can.
So am gonna join and see how the challenges turn out.

    Hello, thanks for the article.

I see that you added some good options to consider as a medium-high entrepeneur but what about Junior ones? I mean, I’m just a naive guy on this subject trying to get my starting jewelry shop online but my budget is quite limited as to carry the maintenance of what can turn to be a heavy-traffic website… I found there is a free Nigerian hosting which has a lot of features… I don’t know if you have tried it before or if there’s another list of your own about free sites but I’d be happy to check it! Cheers for the article

This is spot on for me. I’m always blaming being an introvert on everything. Social anxiety is a legitimate thing. I thought that blogging and joining Facebook groups would be a cure, but in the long run it’s not. Like you said, when I am old I don’t want to regret not being bold. Great post!

One of my goals right now is to figure out how to better monetize my blog. It seems like it so much to research.

  • toastycritic

    September 3, 2017 at 11:54 pm

I agree with this of course. I told myself from the outset that I wouldn't be looking to monetize for six months. And I am sure I haven't done everything the right way. But I am working towards the right kind of growth anyway. Have learned a ton and am barely scratching the surface of what it means to make money. Thanks for this good insight.

It is so annoying to prove that you are human on the Internet, but then again it is a way to protect from bots and spammers.

  • Elizabeth O

    August 25, 2017 at 6:55 am

  • jin

    August 24, 2017 at 5:40 pm

I agree, captchas are annoying but necessary to weed out spam bots. I also agree that there needs to be a better system in catching and preventing these bots! They truly ruin the blog community experience!

I agree, Captchas are so annoying! You have to prove and go back from the start after it. I hate it too.

  • Evolve2Me

    August 22, 2017 at 7:51 pm

Yes…they are SO annoying…especially the ones you can barely see and so you have to go through the process of typing in a new one several times!

  • Manoj

    August 22, 2017 at 2:27 pm

Yes, you're right. CAPTCHA is a terrible part of commenting, crawling and others. Every time we have to prove that, we are not robots. Some CAPTCHAS are difficult to read too.

What a wonderful list of ideas! Sometimes I find I have lots of things I'd like to write about, other times, not so much. I've learned when I'm feeling extra creative, that's the time to write ideas down in my notebook. As food blogger, I used to think I could only write about food. The truth is food weaves its way through so many aspects of our lives, that I started telling stories of my life and sharing a recipe alongside. It was a nice way to expand my horizons and still stay (somewhat) on topic. Great food for thought! x

I followed you from nairaland; I want to chime in to say what a good job I think you are doing.

To your topic, free trials are exactly what they are – trial. The general idea is for you to get a taste of what's to come and to move on if you don't believe it's the right thing for you. Unfortunately, most people just go for the free and forget the trial. It is what it is.

Ya every famous blogger was once a startup.
And about reading income reports, something it can serve as a motivation, other time, it can make you feel like you are not making progress. It a double-edged sword I guess.
